GAO Report on Financial Exploitation, Neglect, and Abuse of Seniors Date: September 2010
Date: Thursday, March 24, 2011

The September 2010 United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) Report "GUARDIANSHIPS - Cases of Financial Exploitation, Neglect, and Abuse of Seniors" brings to light many of the issues that prompted the formation of the Center for Guardianship Certification (CGC) in 1996. The CGC, comprised of volunteers from the guardianship community across the United States, remains concerned about the quality of guardianship services. This Report and the previous two GAO Reports highlight the importance of the CGC in ensuring that guardians are knowledgeable and accountable. The GAO investigation also challenges us to re-examine our methods to see how we can improve the certification process. Click here to read the letter we sent to our constituent organizations outlining the steps we are taking to address the GAO concerns. To see the full GAO Report, click here.

New Technology for becoming certified through CGC!
Date: Thursday, July 01, 2010

CGC is changing our exam testing by offering exams electronically. After June 1, 2010, CGC will no longer be offering paper and pencil as an option for testing. This new and easy way to become certified will help keep costs down and result in a more technologically-friendly system. In addition to changing the examination process, the application process is being made easier, as well!

All applications will be completed online and your credit card automatically charged. No more notaries will be required and you won’t have to cut a check or pay for postage. We want to keep up with the changing ways of technology and want to offer any and all applicants a better way for testing. No internet connection at the exam location is required. Examinations will be offered through ExamSoft.
